The Willows Community Raises Over £800 for Hospice in the Weald

Residents at our new development, The Willows in Horam, have helped raise more than £843 for Hospice in the Weald, turning a simple end-of-development milestone into a meaningful act of community generosity.

With the majority of homes now sold and a thriving community established at The Willows, we offered to sell the show home furniture to residents at a significantly reduced cost. Every penny raised from the sales was donated directly to Hospice in the Weald, a much-loved local charity supporting adults and children living with life threatening or life limiting illnesses across Kent and East Sussex.

Hospice in the Weald provides compassionate, specialist care both at its hospices in Pembury and Five Ashes and in people’s own homes, helping patients live as well as possible. Donations such as those raised by The Willows community play a vital role in enabling the hospice to continue offering its services free of charge to those who need them most.

Lucy Edkins, Relationship Fundraising Executive at Hospice in the Weald, said ‘We’d like to thank both Sussex Weald Homes and the residents at The Willows for supporting this wonderful initiative. Hospice in the Weald’s dedicated team works tirelessly to provide free care and support to adults and children in our community at the most challenging times of their lives, and these funds will make a vital difference to our work.’

In addition to the funds raised, any remaining show home furniture was donated to Furniture Now! a charity-registered social enterprise that supports low-income families by providing affordable, good-quality furniture. With stores in Hailsham, Eastbourne and Lewes, the organisation has been helping households experiencing furniture poverty for over 30 years, while also offering a welcoming, safe space where people can build confidence, learn new skills and connect with their community.

Furniture Now! offers affordable new and pre-loved furniture, appliances and homeware across Sussex, with discounted items available for those in need. Working closely with local organisations and councils, the charity improves access to essential household items while promoting greener waste management. You can find out ore about both donating to the charity at www.furniturenow.org.uk, email hello@nowcharity.org.uk or call 01273 487377.

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the residents of The Willows who took part. Their generosity has not only helped support hospice care for local families but has also ensured that furniture continues to be used to benefit others rather than going to waste.

This initiative reflects the strong sense of community that has already taken root at The Willows, and we are proud to see residents coming together to make a positive difference beyond their own neighbourhood.
